Riding from Paris to London for Room To Read

09 September 2015

In a little over a week’s time, I’m going to be heading to Paris on the Eurostar, only to cycle back to London. Why would I do this again I hear you ask?

Well, last time I went from London to Paris, so I’m doing it the other way round this time. More importantly, I’m raising money for Room To Read. The ride is being organised by TechBikers; born in 2012, they’ve raised an amazing £170,000 for charity since then.

As some of you may know, I don’t like asking for money for sponsorship of something I’d do anyway. However, I have no such qualms in this case because I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t raising money for a charity I really believe in. When I heard about the ride, I was immediately interested and after doing some reading about Room To Read, I applied for a place. Room To Read help people in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, focussing on literacy in early primary school years, and secondary school for girls’ education.

Having spent some time in southern Africa, I witnessed first hand the contrast of extreme poverty alongside the hope and cheer. With my pedal power and your generosity, I’m looking forward to being able to give something back to such a wonderful yet desperate part of the world.

I’ve a sponsorship page on JustGiving; anything you’d like to donate would be gratefully received.
